How to Incorporate White Plaster Lights in Your Home

As a designer, I’m always taking lighting into account when making selections for projects. Everything from ensuring the light fixture is scaled to the room properly to creating a functional lighting plan are all on my to-do list. And there’s the finish of the light fixture itself: should it blend in with the wall color? Be a striking contrast to the rest of the palette? Match the faucets and cabinetry hardware? Luckily with a versatile finish like white plaster, your options are pretty endless to seamlessly incorporating this look into your home. Let’s chat about how you can get this look (and peruse some of my favorite fixtures that are surprisingly affordable!).

I love that crisp, richly textured look of white plaster. It’s truly timeless. Plaster is an ancient material that aesthetically works almost anywhere, from traditional formal dining rooms to contemporary minimalist bedrooms. It adds such a tasteful accent, and I wanted to share one of my favorite ways to incorporate this beautiful material into your home via a light fixture.

The white finish can add a fresh contrast to a moody, earthy palette. Since plaster has a noticeable texture, it works beautifully with natural stone, leather, and unpainted wood like this kitchen above.

And of course, the white plaster look will be stunning in a light, neutral environment and lift the space with a cloud-like effect. When paired with traditional moldings, it can add a rustic contrast with lovely results.

If you’re wanting to incorporate the white plaster look into your home, lean into texture everywhere in the space for a layered, luxe look. This mohair velvet bed paired with a red oak nightstand and linen bedding create a very tranquil, restful vibe.

Plaster plays really well with both contemporary and traditional silhouettes. It also helps those chartreuse curtains shown above pop! The plaster floor lamp is almost like a palette cleanser here; it’s giving our eyes a break from the ornate, marble mantel and colorful curtains with its simple shape.

These lights add such a romantic, soft glow to a space, and I love the simple geometric forms of the shades. I can see these balancing an antique dining table, a contemporary curved sofa, an upholstered headboard, or a comfy leather chair really nicely! Here are some of my favorite light fixtures if you’d like to get the look for your home:

One, two, three, and four.

Five, six, and seven.

You can incorporate the white plaster light look in your home with chandeliers, pendants, sconces, table lamps, or floor lamps, but my tip would be to limit the plaster finish to just one or two lights. With a rich texture like this, less will be more and your light will be even more striking by showing restraint.

Would you use a plaster white light fixture in your home? I definitely would! They add such a stylish touch. Let me know in the comments.
